A Supportive Adult
In order for the match to end smoothly, you need to begin it correctly by explaining your role to the child as a supportive adult and integration teacher who will support them in the areas they’re struggling with at school. The child should understand that you’re not entirely a friend or a teacher, but that you’re there to support, guide, help, and encourage them!
Additionally, you should also explain that you are here only as long as you are able to do so (to help, to guide, to support). The child should understand that the match will end once you’re no longer able to support them; either because they don’t need support anymore or because another person would be a better match for them.
Beginning the relationship in this way helps you end the match smoother when the time has come.
This way, the child understands that the match isn’t ending because you don’t like them anymore or because you are rejecting them.
